8 Things To Do Before 8 AM For A Productive Day

People love to ask, “What is the best morning routine to be successful?”

And I always say the same thing.

A morning routine won’t make you successful. If that’s what you think, I’m sorry to disappoint you but it’s not true.

I know you didn’t expect to hear that. But I want to be honest with you.

I understand you’ve seen other people on social media that swear mornings are the key to happiness. And maybe you’ve even seen some interviews with millionaires where they claim mornings are important.

Ok, maybe they are. But not as much as everyone says.

‘’But Cosmin, I want to be more productive. It’s not possible with a morning routine?’’

Sure. It is possible. But don’t keep yourself busy with activities you don’t want to do when you wake up. Stop reading articles like this and start to take more action towards your goals.

I’ll give you a list of 8 things to do before 8 AM. But I don’t want you to look at this list like something ‘’you must do’’. They’re things you COULD do.

Keep in mind that the only purpose of mornings is to put yourself in a productive state.

1.Drink water:

It’s hard to wake up before sunrise. You don’t want to open your eyes. Outside is cold and dark.

And you want to sleep for just another 5 minutes.

Sure, you might force yourself to get up. Maybe you put an alarm on your desk to do that. But it’s not enough. You’ll feel tired.

What can you do about it?

Drink water. In the morning, you’re dehydrated.

Your six to eight hours of sleep is a long period to go without any water. And your body is craving for it. Drinking one or two glasses is a great way to quickly rehydrate your body.

2.Exercise:

The most important morning habit is the exercise.

If you skip this, you might as well forget about your morning routine entirely. I know you can’t go to the gym because you don’t have time.

Fortunately, a home work-out could be finished in 30 minutes. Do some push-ups, squats and abs.

Stretching exercises are also useful for muscle toning. If that’s not enough, you can buy yourself some weights or other gym equipment. Finally, you can go running. It’s exhausting.  But it’s really healthy and can help you lose weight.

Morning exercises are a great mood booster. Do them immediately after you drink water.

3.Meditation:

I don’t like meditation but it’s important.

Why? Because it releases your mind of negative thoughts. It reduces stress. It makes you think better. And it has numerous other benefits.

When you start your day with a morning meditation, you are giving yourself the best opportunity to be fully aware, fully awake, and fully present before “doing” anything. You’ll feel better all day long.

Practice this habit for 10 minutes.

Here’s how to do it:

  • Make sure your room is quiet and there’s no distraction.
  • Sit down with your legs crossing each other
  • Close your eyes
  • Focus on your breathing

You’ll find many ways to meditate. But I’d say this is the best option.

One more thing: Maybe, you tried to meditate a few times before but it felt frustrating because you had your mind overflown with thoughts.

So, you probably told yourself that you’re not good at it. But you can be. Keep practice for one month and I guarantee you’ll see a change.

4.Read:

When you read in the morning, your mind is still fresh. This helps you to absorb more information quicker since your brain is more active.

Life gets busy.

It’s all work, distractions, internet and tons of stress.

Most of us don’t have time to read during the afternoon or in the night. Or we might have, but we’re not so excited about it. From the moment you sit on your desk, you start to deal with problems…and that’s just your work stuff.

You don’t relax when you’re supposed to because you’re always answering emails, scrolling Instagram and thinking about how to grow your business faster.

When you read a book in the morning, you still didn’t go through any of these.

And it’s pretty awesome to recreate yourself as soon as you open your eyes.

5.Practice visualization:

The daily practice of visualizing your dreams as already complete can make them come true much faster.

Visualization techniques have been used for ages. Elite athletes use it. Top performers use it. And different entrepreneurs in all fields use it.

You can live without doing that but you miss four important benefits.

Visualization:

  1. Activates your subconscious mind which will start generating creative ideas to accomplish your goals.
  2. Programs your brain to search and recognize the resources you will need to achieve your dreams.
  3. Activates the law of attraction and you start to attract into your life favorable opportunities and circumstances.
  4. Builds your motivation to take the necessary actions.

Sure, imagination is not enough. You also need to take massive action. But I really recommend this habit. Although I’m not a philosopher, I’ve seen it with my own eyes how powerful it could be.

Here’s what you should do:

  • Buy a visualization board: You should find one on Amazon.
  • Save a couple of pictures with your dreams: You can put your dream car, house, your partner and so on.
  • Look over these pictures for 5-10 minutes/day and imagine everything as already accomplished.

Imagine being inside of yourself, looking out through your eyes at the ideal result.

Also, consider buying a happiness board. This is a board where you put all the things that make you happy(whether you have them or not). It’s a great technique to fight with negative thinking.

6.Read affirmations:

Affirmations have the role of shaping yourself into the person you want to be.

And there are 2 types of affirmations you should use everyday:

  • affirmations on gratitude
  • affirmations on confidence

Let’s talk about each one.

If you practice gratitude, you’ll start to appreciate your life and what you have.

Research has shown that gratitude is correlated with personality traits associated with positive emotional functioning, lower dysfunction, and positive social relationships.

How about confidence? If you practice affirmations on that, you’ll feel better about yourself and what you do.

Confidence is probably the most important characteristic of successful people.

If you don’t believe in yourself, you’ll be afraid to take risks. And if you’ll do something, you’ll feel weak and this will reflect in your results.

You won’t have any desire to hustle because…‘’What if it doesn’t work”?.

On the other hand, when you’re confident, magic happens. You stop caring about failure or what other people think of you. You feel good in your own skin. And you start to live a different life.

Why?

Because you believe you’re good enough.

By the way, these 2 types of affirmations are not your only options. You can use affirmations on anything.

Create a list with what you want to believe, read it daily for 10 minutes and after a couple of months, you’ll see a change.

7.Drink a shake:

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.

But let’s say you don’t want to eat breakfast. If you’re like me, you’re not hungry when you wake up. And maybe you don’t have too much time for that anyway.

What could you do? A protein shake provides a fast meal to stay full, focused and energized all morning.

It can also help you lose weight. Six studies concluded a meal replacement “can safely and effectively produce significant sustainable weight loss and improve weight-related risk factors of disease.”

When you wake up, your body still has not had any intake of nourishment (including protein).

Without protein, muscles start to break down in order to create energy.

Having a breakfast that is high in protein can prevent that. In fact, it’ll help you build the body you want faster.

8.Block one hour of your time:

Let me guess.

Sometimes you don’t want to start your day when you look at your to-do list.

You see 20 tasks, 19 of which being totally useless. You have to walk your dog. Answer emails. Then you’re supposed to clean your room. Do some marketing stuff. Stay in some phone calls.

I get it.

To-do lists can be overwhelming. Not too long ago, I had the same problem. As a result, I felt stressed and I had lots of days where I didn’t make any progress towards my important goals.

Why?

Because my tasks weren’t so important. They just kept me busy.

Do you know the feeling? If you want to solve this problem, start using the MIT concept. You find what’s your most important task and you do it the first time each day.

I’m sure you heard about that. It can be a huge productivity boost.

You might think it would hurt your productivity, but it actually helps you make progress faster and more consistently than ever before.

If you can remember only one thing for my article, remember this: Spend at least 45 minutes—preferably 1 hour—working without distractions on your most important task.

Do this and you can safely ignore everything else I wrote here.

Don’t waste your time:

Ok, I showed you 8 things to do before 8 AM.

Now let’s talk about the things you shouldn’t do.

Here’s a couple of them….

Making your bed: I used to believe it’s a good habit. And I still think it is. It could give you a sense of accomplishment before you start your day. But it’s something you should do? No. You can live a happy, stress-free life without making your bed in the morning until you die. Use your time for something else.

Planning your day: Don’t tell me you don’t know what to do when you wake up. I’ve seen this mistake too many times. Planning your day in the morning is one of the worst ideas. Why? Because decision making kills productivity. Take decisions during the evening, when the day ended.

Doing nothing: Please, don’t start your day scrolling Instagram and Reddit. Don’t watch youtube videos. Don’t check your emails. And don’t do anything that could damage your productivity. You can do all of these later.
