How To Stop Overthinking All The Time

stop overthinking

There are lots of articles about how to stop overthinking, but here’s what makes this one different:

I used to overthink for the most part of my life. And I know how difficult it is to stop. What you find on the internet about this subject is usually a waste of time.

Most ‘’experts’’ don’t even know what they talk about.

Overthinking is not about negative thinking:

Let’s start with a little brutal truth, shall we?

‘’Think positive’’ is not the key to success. It’s just a big lie that makes us feel great. You might associate overthinking with negative thinking.

If you overthink, it means you worry too much, complain and feel sorry for yourself, right?

Wrong.

You can overthink positive things and it’s still the same problem. Don’t focus on positive thoughts. Dreaming is not the solution. It’s a worse alternative.

Why you can’t stop overthinking:

You don’t need me to tell you the reason. You know it too well. You just avoid talking about it.

You overthink because you don’t take action.

You want to do something and you don’t. It’s as simple as that. You have ideas, goals and plans. And they keep staying in your head because you don’t do anything about that.

The good news is you can do something right now.

Try the following exercise: Write down on a piece of paper a list of your most common thoughts that keep you distracted.

This way, you’ll be more aware of them. Once you finish, you have two options:

  • You can decide to do something with each item. For instance, if one of your repetitive thoughts is about starting a new project, you can start it right now. Or, if you think constantly about making an investment in your business, you can do it right now. Instead of doing such things ‘’one day’’, take care of them today.
  • Or you can cut each thing off your list and release it to the universe. If you have ideas that are impossible to implement or they really don’t matter at this moment, you can decide to stop caring about them for a while.

The point is to be responsible with your thoughts.

This exercise is very powerful. It cleans your mind and allows you to take control over what you think. You can give up consciously on 99% of the things ‘’you should do’’ and use your energy more productive.

And if you really want to do something from your list but you still procrastinate, here’s a mindset shift that will solve this problem.

Allow yourself to make mistakes:

When you learned how to ride a bike, you weren’t worried about ‘’What if I fall?”.

You allowed yourself to do that. In other words, you allowed yourself to fail. And that brought you good results after a while. On the other hand, when you grow up, you stop to approach your life with this mindset.

Whether you’re a negative or a positive person, you think 10x times before doing something. But that doesn’t lead anywhere. Allow yourself to make mistakes again.

And learn from them, instead of beating yourself up when you don’t see results.

Focus on the present:

The secret to never getting trapped in overthinking again is to stop focusing on what happened or what could happen.

Focus on what happens right now.

Do more, even if what you’re doing is wrong. Take decisions, even if they’re bad decisions. Focus on living a life where you do small things constantly, not where you think about big things.

In other words, NEVER focus on the past or the future but rather focus on the present.

And if you believe that’s impossible, I have a question for you…

How many times you’ve seen this quote:

“Our life is what our thoughts make it.”

People are obsessed with the idea ‘’I’m one with my own thoughts’’.

No, you’re not. You have power over your thoughts and you can decide what to do with them.

If one thing it’s really important for you, do something about it. If it doesn’t matter, forget about it. Take responsibility!

You’ll stop overthinking about making more money if you do something to make more money. You’ll stop overthinking about losing weight if you do something to lose weight. You’ll stop overthinking about meeting a person if you do something to meet that person.

How can you overthink thoughts you take responsibility for? You can’t. You’re the one who decides what to do with them.

How many hours per day do you think? These are the same hours you’ll never get back. Seriously, what you’re trying to analyze, anyway? Buy that life-changing course. Travel the world. Spend more time with your family.

Or don’t do anything. Just make a decision.

The power is in your hands.

Live in the moment, enjoy each day you have on this earth and NEVER let your thoughts consume you again.

Stop overthinking and start living a happy life. You deserve it!
